Kesari, featuring Akshay Kumar as the main protagonist, is having a decent run at the box-office. The film, however, slowed down on Tuesday as it managed to collect not more than Rs 7.17 crore. The drop from Monday, when it had earned Rs 8.25 crore, is over 13 per cent, which suggests that it is losing its grip at ticket windows. After a six-day run in cinemas, its total collection stands at Rs 93.49 crore.

According to movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Kesari is performing well in North circuits, the part of country where Akshay enjoys a huge fan following. In a tweet posted on Wednesday afternoon, he said that the film might gain entry into the Rs 100 crore-club on Wednesday or Thursday. His summing up of the business of Kesari here:

Kesari, starring Parineeti Chopra as the female lead, is directed by Anurag Singh, who is best known among the Hindi-speaking audience for films Raqeeb (2007) and Dil Bole Hadippa! (2009). But Singh has predominantly worked in the Punjabi film industry, wherein he has helmed the very popular Jatt & Juliet series and the National Award-winning Punjab 1984, among other films.

Kesari is based on the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi that saw 21 Sikhs of the British Indian contingent taking on an army of 10,000 Afghan invaders in what is considered to be the bravest military combat ever in the history of mankind. The Sikhs, before attaining martyrdom, had managed to kill about 900 soldiers of the enemy. September 12 is celebrated as Saragarhi Day every year to commemorate the great war.

Kesari, upon its release on March 21, met with mixed to negative critical reception. The word of mouth for the film, though, has been fairly strong, which has helped it score big at the box-office. The film is jointly produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films and Azure Entertainment.
