Key Appointments: New Secretaries Named for Telecom, IT, and Mines Ministries

NEW DELHI: In a late-night development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has given its nod to the appointment of new secretaries in key ministries. Here are the latest appointments:

Neeraj Mittal: A seasoned 1992 batch IAS officer, currently serving as the principal secretary of the information technology department in Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as the new Secretary in the Department of Telecommunications. Mittal's extensive experience includes senior advisory roles at the World Bank Group and serving as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He will be taking over from K Rajaraman, who has been appointed as the Chairman of the IFSCA in Gujarat.

S Krishnan: An IAS officer from the 1989 batch of the Tamil Nadu cadre, who currently holds the position of Industries Secretary in the state government, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Krishnan will succeed Alkesh Kumar Sharma, who retired on August 31.

VL Kantha Rao: Formerly an Additional Secretary in the Department of Telecommunications, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Mines. This move comes as former Mines Secretary Vivek Bhardwaj takes charge as Officer on Special Duty at the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

Umang Narula: Narula has been appointed as the Secretary in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

Arunish Chawla: A 1992 batch IAS officer from Bihar, will assume the role of Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, effective from November 1, 2023.

Chanchal Kumar: Also from the 1992 batch and Bihar cadre, Kumar has been appointed as Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.

Vumlunmang Vualnam: Hailing from the Manipur cadre and part of the 1992 batch of IAS officers, Vualnam has been appointed as Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Previously, he served as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.

These appointments mark significant changes in the leadership of various ministries, with experienced civil servants taking on crucial roles in India's administrative machinery.
