New Delhi: In preparation for the upcoming unity meeting on July 17-18th in Bangalore, Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, has extended invitations to prominent opposition leaders. This invitation follows the successful June 23 opposition meeting in Patna, convened by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Expressing satisfaction with the previous meeting, Kharge highlighted the crucial discussions on various issues that pose threats to our democratic polity. The leaders reached a unanimous agreement on the collective endeavor to combat the challenges posed by the forthcoming General Elections. In light of this, Kharge emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum and continuing these deliberations.
The invitation serves as a reminder of the commitment made during the previous meeting, where it was agreed to reconvene in July. The letter underlines the necessity of collaborative efforts to address the challenges confronting our nation. It states, "I believe it is imperative that we forge ahead with these discussions and build upon the foundations we have laid. Together, we can discover effective solutions to the obstacles our country faces."
To facilitate this process, Kharge cordially requests the esteemed leaders' presence at the meeting followed by a dinner on July 17 at 6:00 PM in Bangalore . The meeting will resume on July 18, 2023, starting at 11:00 AM. Kharge eagerly anticipates the opportunity to meet with them in Bangalore .
The first opposition meeting in Patna witnessed the participation of over 15 parties, with prominent leaders including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin. This gathering was organized in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The current meeting aims to formulate the opposition's comprehensive strategy to counter the BJP in the upcoming 2024 general elections. By fostering unity and collaboration, the opposition parties seek to present a strong and united front.
