KIEV: Ukrainian authorities have confirmed that shelling in the eastern city of Kharkiv resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and the injuries of 34 others.

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office said, Russian forces shelled residential structures in the Slobidskyi area at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. As per reports,  ten homes and a bus depot were destroyed as a result of the incident. Three of the 34 injured people were children, according to the report.

Investigators from the Security Council of Ukraine Office in Kharkiv have initiated a pre-trial inquiry into "violations of the laws and customs of war mixed with deliberate murder," according to the Office.

According to the BBC, Russian forces have been mercilessly pounding Kharkiv, which is around 50 kilometres from the countries' border, since the invasion began on February 24. At least 500 civilians have been reported murdered in Kharkiv as of late March.
