Islamabad: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan has decided to buy ancestral houses of Bollywood veteran actors Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. The KP government has taken this decision for the preservation of these historic buildings lying in a shaky condition, which is also in danger of collapsing.

Giving information, an official said that the Department of Archeology in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has decided to allocate the appropriate amount for the purchase of both buildings. The official said that the ancestral houses of the two actors have been declared national heritage by the government and these buildings are located in the heart of Peshawar city. Dr. Abdus Samad Khan, Chairman of the Department of Archeology said that a letter has been written in this regard to the Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar.

He stated that the letter asked to determine the value of both the historic buildings where two stars of Indian cinema were born and where they spent their early lives before partition. Abdus Samad Khan further stated that the owners of both the buildings made several attempts to demolish the buildings for the construction of the commercial plaza, being in the main place. However, in view of the historical importance of these buildings, the Archaeological Department decided to preserve them and efforts were made to demolish them.
