Bangalore: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Bangalore recorded a strong surge in passenger numbers during the fiscal Year 2022-23, recording a 96 percent growth over the previous fiscal and welcoming over 31.91 million passengers, said a PR issued by the airport authority.

"Bangalore Airport reported an increase in passenger numbers when compared to the prior financial year, with a total of 31.91 million passengers passing through the Airport. During this time, 3.78 million of these were travellers from abroad and 28.12 million were domestic travellers.

"In comparison to FY22, the domestic (DOM) sector grew by 85%, while the international (INT) sector grew by 245%. As per  release, Bangalore Airport is still India's top airport for processing perishable cargo and has been for the past two years."The increase in passengers in FY23 can be attributed to post-pandemic operations resumption, as well as the re-introduction of key routes and the initiation of new routes connecting leading business hubs and travel destinations."
A steady recovery is being aided by the fact that BLR Airport is currently connected to a total of 100 locations, including 25 international and 75 domestic locations. According to the press statement, the Airport kept up its top ranking in the handling of perishable goods.

"From the standpoint of passengers, the highlights of the year have been Emirates' daily Airbus A380 flights to Dubai, Qantas' inauguration of service to Sydney, and Akasa's growth story. Our ranking as India's top airport for handling perishable goods for the second year running is evidence of our dedication to excellence. We are now more prepared than ever to maintain our position as the chosen gateway to South and Central India thanks to the recent opening of Terminal 2 (T2). As we continue to put our customers' comfort and convenience first, our commitment to improving the Airport's operations is unshakable, stated Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Strategy and Development Officer, BIAL.

With a 50.8% total gain in FY 23, the recovery in air transport movements (ATMs) has been spectacular. International ATM growth was 59.6% while domestic ATM growth was 49.8%.

On February 26, 2023, the airport reported 114,299 pax, which was also the most passengers on a single day since the airport opened in 2008, as well as the highest number of passengers for FY23.
