At the age of 96, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022, according to official announcements. While the Royal family is deeply affected by the death of the Queen, it seems crucially important to continue the reign, their legacy, and the coronation of the new Monarch. She ascended the Throne as a Queen in 1952, and after ruling the United Kingdom for 70 years, the Throne is being taken over by her eldest son, Prince Charles, now known as King Charles III.

On behalf of his family, King Charles III stated that they are deeply saddened by the loss of his mother and find solace in the fact that Her Majesty The Queen is so well-liked and revered. To ensure a seamless accession to the throne, however, much must be done. So, from new titles and tasks to the coronation, here is all you need to know about the 73-year-old King Charles III's succession to the UK Throne.

Is Prince Charles currently the monarch of the UK?

Due to an old law provision of the British monarchy, Prince Charles, who was Queen Elizabeth II's eldest son and the next successor to the throne, immediately became the King upon her passing. Prince Charles is now the King of the United Kingdom, so absolutely.

Prince Charles will become King at some point. When will King Charles III be formally installed as the King?

In accordance with convention, Prince Charles is expected to succeed Her Majesty The Queen as monarch after her passing; but, the coronation ceremony won't happen right away. Over the next ten days, the majority of ceremonies will centre on Queen Elizabeth II. The most important step, however, is to attend the Accession Council meeting since the council will formally appoint Charles as the King. This meeting takes place the day after the reigning King or Queen passes away, as has historically been the case.

In addition, Prime Minister Liz Truss made a formal announcement transferring the throne to His Majesty King Charles III as the nation's new monarch and head of state. Even Clarence House acknowledged that Charles III would be his new formal title.

Another thing to keep in mind is that King Charles III has assumed all of the responsibilities and benefits of a consecrated king with immediate effect, although he won't be seen in public donning the Crown until his formal coronation.

The Accession Council is what?

Only when a king passes away does the Accession Council, which is made up of top officials, convene. Its main function is to formally ratify the accession, which is the declaration of a new ruler as the heir to the throne. This council is made up of Privy Council members who gather in St. James' Palace for the meeting, including the Lord Mayor, judges, senior Cabinet ministers, great officers of state, Church of England leaders, and even top civil servants.

What day and time will King Charles III be crowned?

The Accession Council has formally proclaimed King Charles III as the new monarch of the United Kingdom, but there are still a number of formalities that must be completed before and after Charles takes the throne. Furthermore, none of this will occur for a few months.

According to our historical records, Queen Elizabeth II's coronation took place 16 months after her formal succession to the throne.

According to legend, the coronation typically lasts a full year, taking into account the royal family's period of mourning. Therefore, as of right now, it is impossible to say with certainty when or where King Charles III was crowned. The only sure thing we know is that the coronation will (most probably) take place at Westminster Abbey, where William the Conqueror was crowned 900 years ago.

Who will succeed the current monarch on the throne?

As a result of King Charles III's official proclamation of the Throne, the line of succession for the Royal Throne in Great Britain has (somewhat) changed.

The first member of the Royal family to ascend to the British throne is Prince William, Charles' oldest son. Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis, his three children, are standing behind him in line.

The second son of Charles, Prince Harry, is currently fifth in line for the British throne. He is followed in line by his two children, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten Windsor and Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor.
