New Delhi: The Modi cabinet has been expanded. 43 Union Cabinet Ministers were sworn in on Wednesday. Many of which have been promoted and some new faces have been included in Team Modi.  There are some leaders who had earlier joined the Union Cabinet but now their portfolios have been changed. One such name is that of Kiren Rijiju, the former sports minister of the country who has been given the charge of the law ministry. He has also reached the office today and took charge.

Kiren Rijiju, who was made sports minister after the Modi government was re-formed in 2019, has replaced Ravi Shankar Prasad. It may be recalled that at present there is a huge tussle between the law ministry of the country and social media, especially Twitter. In fact, Twitter is reluctant to follow the country's new IT rules. Former IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has warned Twitter several times but does not seem ready to accept microblogging sites. In such a situation, the newly appointed Law Minister Kiren Rijiju will have a great responsibility to address the issue. State that Rijiju is a law graduate from Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, Delhi University and will hold the charge of Ministry of Law and Justice in the Central Government.

The Delhi High Court has also reprimanded Twitter over the IT rules. When Twitter did not follow the new IT rules, the High Court had made it clear that we cannot give any protection to Twitter now. The government is free to take any action against Twitter. It will now be interesting to see how the newly appointed Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has Twitter.
