Knife Attack on Hindu Businessman in Kanpur by Former Employee

Lucknow: A horrific knife attack on a Hindu businessman has been reported in Kanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The victim, Raju Hargunani, who owns a shoe showroom, was attacked by a group of individuals, one of whom is said to be a minor from the Muslim community. The incident occurred on Friday, April 19, 2024.

The attack took place in the eastern area of Kanpur city, specifically in Naveen Market in the Kotwali area. Raju Hargunani, aged 57, was sitting at the counter of his showroom when the former minor employee, who had recently left work, entered the showroom armed with a large knife. The attacker, along with three others, began attacking Raju with knives, inflicting severe wounds on his stomach, back, and hands. The victim's intestines were also protruding due to the severity of the injuries.

Despite the chaos, nearby people rushed to help upon hearing the screams. However, the attackers threatened them with the knife, forcing them to stay away. After stabbing Raju multiple times, the assailants fled the scene, leaving behind a bloodbath in the showroom. Raju was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment on a ventilator.

A complaint was lodged by Raju's nephew, Sunil Kumar, who revealed that the attackers included former employees Bilal, Akhtar, and Shaan, along with the minor who had recently quit. The police were immediately informed about the incident, and they registered a case, stating that there were four attackers involved.

The main accused, who had fled to Lucknow after the attack, was arrested by the police on Saturday, April 20. The knife used in the attack was also recovered. An FIR has been registered against the attacker under sections 307 and 506 of the IPC, and further investigations are underway.
