New Delhi: The BJP has declared West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as the vice-presidential candidate from the NDA. This was agreed upon at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting. The meeting was attended by prime minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh and others. After the meeting, BJP Chief JP Nadda announced the name of Jagdeep Dhankhar while addressing a press conference. Nadda addressed Jagdeep Dhankhar as the son of a farmer.
Significantly, Jagdeep Dhankhar's tenure as governor in West Bengal was in the news. There have been several confrontations between him and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. However, it will also be interesting to see now that after Dhankhar's departure, there will be a new Governor of Bengal and how he will have relations with TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Born on May 18, 1951, Jagdeep Dhankhar's father Chaudhary Gokulchand Dhankhar was a farmer, so Nadda introduced him as a farmer's son. Dhankhar has also been a senior Supreme Court advocate and president of the Rajasthan High Koti Bar Association.
Dhankhar is originally a resident of Kithana village under Jhunjhunu. He was also selected for the IITs, NDA and IAS, but Dhankhar himself chose to advocate. Jagdeep Dhankhar started his career as a lawyer in the Bar Council of Rajasthan and started practising in the Supreme Court in 1990.
Not only this, in one era, Dhankhar has been a known face of Rajasthan politics. He also contributed a lot to getting reservations for Jats in Rajasthan. Dhankhar himself is also a Jat and hence has a considerable hold in this community. Dhankhar was earlier a Janata Dal Party MP from the Jhunjhunu Lok Sabha seat from 1989 to 1991. Dhankhar was also a Union minister in the Chandrasekhar government after becoming an MP from Jhunjhunu in 1989 but later moved to the Congress. However, on the Panja (Congress) symbol, he lost the Lok Sabha elections from Ajmer, after which he defeated the BJP in 2003 and won the assembly election from Ajmer. Dhankhar was appointed the Governor of West Bengal on 20 July 2019.

Let us know that, in electing the Vice-President of the country, the electoral college includes the votes of all the members of both the Houses of Parliament, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. At present, the total number of MPs in Parliament is 780. Of these, the BJP alone has 394 MPs and needs more than 390 votes to win the elections. In such a situation, It is believed that Jagdeep Dhankhar will become the Vice President.
