The Kargil war between India and Pakistan lasted for about 60 days and ended on 26 July. According to the information disclosed by the Army and the government about these 60 days of the year 1999, the foundation of the war was laid in the month of February 1999 itself. In 1999, the PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee went to Lahore by bus and also met Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif. Ministers, artists etc. also accompanied the former Prime Minister. On the one hand, the relations with Pakistan were improving, on the other hand, the Pakistani army was plotting against India.
According to the information received from the shepherds, the book 'The Whiteness to Blunder-Kargil Story Anfoldach' claims that Captain Iftekhar of the 6 Northern Light Infantry of Pakistan was sitting with his soldiers at the Azam outpost of Kargil when he saw Indian shepherds. In a short period of time, Indian Army soldiers also arrived along with the shepherds. After that, the Lama helicopter came flying. It was only then that the Pakistan troops captured the Kargil hills.
There have been many military conflicts between India and Pakistan even after 1971. Tensions were further heightened by nuclear testing by both countries. The two countries then signed the Lahore Declaration in February 1999 to calm the situation. It promised to resolve the Kashmir issue through bilateral talks but Pakistan concealed its troops and paramilitary forces and started sending it across the borderline which was named 'Operation Badr'. Its main goal was to break the relationship between Kashmir and Ladakh and divert the Indian Army from the Siachen Glacier.
