Some special events are recorded in the history of every day, which increases the importance of that day. Today we are talking about 9 November, which is very special for both India and Germany. Come, let's know why this day is given so much importance.
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The day of 9 November 1989 has been recorded in the history of Germany forever. On this day, the Berlin Wall was demolished, which separated the two parts of Germany - East and West Germany. This wall was built on 13 August 1961, which was built by the East German government to prevent people from going to West Germany.
After the Second World War, Germany was divided into four parts. The eastern part was under the control of the Soviet Union, where there was a communist rule, while the western part was under the protection of America, Britain, and France, where there was a democratic system. Due to this, there were many differences between the two parts. Millions of people started fleeing from East Germany to West Germany in search of better life and opportunities. To stop this problem, East Germany built the Berlin Wall.
This wall was about 155 kilometers long and had barbed wire, guard towers and trenches, so that it was almost impossible to cross it. This wall divided the people of Germany for about 30 years. Many families were separated, relationships were broken, and many people did not even get a chance to meet their loved ones. It was also called the "Iron Curtain" at that time.
How did the wall fall
On 9 November 1989, the East German government held a press conference. During this, Communist Party Secretary Günter Schabowski announced that now the people of East Germany can go to West Germany. As soon as this news spread, people ran towards the wall and within no time the wall was demolished. This was a historic moment not only for Germany but for the entire world. People were meeting their relatives after years, hugging each other and celebrating a new beginning.
Why is it important for India
Apart from Germany, 9 November is also special for India. On this day in 1947, Junagadh princely state merged with India. After independence, the Nawab of Junagadh decided to join Pakistan, while the people of this princely state wanted to join India. In such a situation, a referendum was held on 9 November 1947, in which more than 99 percent of the people voted in favor of merging with India. In this way, Junagadh merged with India and this day was also recorded in Indian history. In this way, 9 November is a historic day for both Germany and India. While on one hand the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany gave a message of unity, on the other hand, the merger of Junagadh with India further strengthened the integrity of our country.
