World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated annually on April 26. This day is celebrated to highlight the importance of the intellectual property. This year, World Intellectual Property Day is being celebrated under the following theme. This day was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2000. It aims to rapidly increase the awareness of the impact on the daily life of copyright, patents, designs and trademarks.

Why 26 April?: 26 April was chosen to be celebrated as World Intellectual Property Day as the "Convention to Establish the World Intellectual Property Organization" came into force on this day. World Intellectual Property Day was proposed by China.

WIPO was established in 1967. It came into force in 1970. It is said to be one of the 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations. The organization manages 26 international treaties. Let me tell you that there is a member of WIPO in India. India is also a member of the following WIPO administered international treaties:

Marrakesh Treaty:
- The Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of Olympic Symbol
- The Washington Treaty on Intellectual Property in relation to the Integrated Circuit

Patent Cooperation Treaty:
- Berne Convention for the Protection of Literature and Artistic Works
- Paris Conference for the Protection of Industrial Property
