Kolkata: Virat Kohli celebrated his 35th birthday with a century in the ODI World Cup 2023 match against South Africa. Kohli's remarkable century, his 49th in ODIs, put him on par with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. In the match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, India set a target of 327 runs for South Africa.

Rohit Sharma's Aggressive Start
Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. He launched an aggressive offensive against the South African bowlers, scoring 40 runs in just 24 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. Shubman Gill contributed 23 runs to the team's score, while Shreyas Iyer played an impressive innings, amassing 77 runs. Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja added valuable runs at the end, bringing India's total to 326 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Kohli's Historic Century
Virat Kohli's 49th century came in his 277th ODI innings, equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record. Sachin achieved this milestone in his 451st innings during his illustrious career. With 49 centuries in ODIs, both Kohli and Sachin share the record for the most centuries in One Day Internationals. Remarkably, India's top three batsmen with the most centuries in ODIs are Kohli, Sachin, and Rohit Sharma, with 49, 49, and 31 centuries, respectively.

Kohli's ODI World Cup Form
In the ODI World Cup 2023, Kohli has been in exceptional form, recording two centuries and four fifties thus far. His unbeaten 101 against South Africa adds to his impressive tournament performance. He previously scored an unbeaten 103 against Bangladesh but missed centuries with innings of 95 against New Zealand, 85 against Australia, and 88 against Sri Lanka. A century in the upcoming match against the Netherlands could see Kohli break Sachin's record and become the player with the most ODI centuries. The match will take place on November 12 in Bengaluru, Kohli's IPL home ground.
