Kolkata: Kolkata HC rejects the bail decision for all four leaders of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) after which they are put in presidency jail. Among the arrested leaders are Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee as ministers in the state while Madan Mitra is MLA. Sovan Chatterjee was the Mayor of Kolkata. Mitra and Sovan were also once part of the Mamata Banerjee cabinet. Opposing the action, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee had also used offensive words for Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Following the action, CM Mamata Banerjee staged a dharna with hundreds of her supporters in front of the CBI office at Nizam Palace in Kolkata, which has been strongly commented upon by the Calcutta High Court. The high court said that if such incidents take place after the arrest of the leaders, people will lose faith in the judiciary. The special CBI court had granted bail to the four, which has been stayed by the high court. The high court bench had an urgent sitting on Monday night. The case pertains to narada scam, based on sting tape, allegations have been made that TMC ministers took money to benefit fake companies.

Now, Calcutta High Court Executive Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Arjit Banerjee have said that the four accused leaders should be kept in judicial custody till further orders. The court said, "It is most important for citizens to have trust in the judicial system as this is the last option for them. People may feel that mobocracy dominates the law and order situation. Especially in cases where the state CM is leading a crowd at the CBI office and the law minister in the court premises. Such incidents should not happen if you believe in the secret of the law. ”
