New Delhi: Mumbai Indians, the most successful team in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, are facing their worst ever spell in the 15th season of the League. The team has become the first team to be knocked out of the playoff race this season. Mumbai suffered a 52-run defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the DY Patil Stadium on Monday. With this defeat, another embarrassing record of IPL history has been recorded in the name of Mi, who is captained by Rohit Sharma. This was Mumbai's ninth defeat in 11 matches in IPL 2022.

After this defeat, MI has now become the first team to lose the most matches in any one season of the IPL. The Mumbai team had not lost so many matches (9) in any one season of the IPL before. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians had earlier lost 8-8 matches in 2018, 2014 and 2009 and 7-7 in 2021, 2016 and 2012. At the same time, if we talk about the match, MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first and KKR scored 165 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. The target of 166 runs given to Mumbai Indians started to look big when the wickets of the team kept falling.

Jasprit Bumrah's 5 wickets and Ishan Kishan's half-century also did not work for Mumbai and the team suffered a crushing defeat by 52 runs. This is Mumbai's second-lowest score against Kolkata. Earlier, the team was bowled out for 108 against Kolkata at the Wankhede Stadium in 2012. This is only the second time in IPL's history that Kolkata has beaten Mumbai in three consecutive matches.
