Kolkata: Kolkata Police has once again planned to impose the 'No helmet no petrol' rule. This rule will come into effect from 8 December. On giving information, a senior Kolkata Police official has said that under this rule, petrol pump operators will be stopped from giving petrol to bike riders who are not wearing helmets. He told that this rule will come into effect from December 8 and will remain in force for the next 60 days.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma, while issuing the order, said, 'It has been seen many times that bike riders travel without helmets. The companion travelling with them also does not wear a helmet. Such cases are a violation of rules and this increases the risk of accidents. The order issued by the Kolkata Police states that there is a possibility of accidents without a helmet driving a two-wheeler. This order has been issued so that the traffic system can be improved. The Commissioner of Police says that it is necessary to take such stringent steps to ensure that traffic laws are followed.

After the displeasure of CM Mamata Banerjee in July 2016, the Kolkata Police had imposed the rule, no helmet, no petrol. During that time too, bike drivers coming to the petrol pump without wearing a helmet were refused petrol.
