BANGALORE: The governor of Karnataka, Thaawarchand Gehlot, said on Friday that the state is pursuing inclusive development in order to forge ahead and accomplish the objectives set forth for the future 25 years of "Amrit Kaal."
Gehlot said that the government passed the Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act to safeguard the value of the cattle industry in his speech to the joint session of the State legislature.
On Friday, the 15th Legislative Assembly of Karnataka's first session ended. On February 17, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who also holds the Finance position, will deliver his administration's final budget at the 11-day session.
The state governor said, 100 government "Goshalas" are being built to care for animals that farmers are unable to raise because they are frail, ill, orphaned, or both. He claimed that one crore cattle have been immunised as a preventive against lumpy cow disease. He went into great detail about the government's healthcare and welfare programmes for SC/ST people and farmers.
The governor praised the state for starting a number of investment-attraction initiatives. The "Raitha Vidya Nidhi Yojana," which helps farmers, has been expanded to include weavers, farm labourers, and other groups, he said.
The Governor declared, "My government is marching in the vanguard of progress and is committed to the welfare and development of farmers, labourers, poor, weaker sectors, and the underprivileged." He claims that 20.19 lakh farmers received short-term crop loan disbursements totaling Rs 15,066 crore from 2022–23 at 0% interest rates till the end of December.
In response to 14.63 lakh farmers who lost crops in 2022–2023 due to heavy rains and floods, the state government has donated Rs 2,031 crore.
The Governor also said that self-help groups received a total of Rs 1,215 crore at zero percent interest up till December 31st of last year.
In the following 25 years of "Amrit Kaal," Gehlot continued, "My government is following the model of inclusive development and I am optimistic that it will successfully traverse the route of progress paved by our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
The Governor noted that Karnataka is the first and only state in the nation where fully digital and cashless transactions have begun in enclosed e-markets with e-action and e-payment systems.
Karnataka has been named the greatest maritime state by the Center, he claimed. By the end of December of the current fiscal year, 1,119.08 km of road work has been constructed under the "Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana" at a cost of Rs 590.92 crore.
Speaking on healthcare, Gehlot stated that out of the 438 approved "Namma Clinics," 271 have already been in operation. She also stated that out of the 128 approved Women Wellness Clinics, 53 have already been established and would soon be accessible to the general public.
Gehlot emphasised Karnataka's success in the energy sector, saying, "My government has provided uninterrupted power supply from hydro, wind, and solar power sources, whereas other states across the country are suffering from significant disruptions in power delivery due to unavailability of coal." According to him, 58,588 million units of energy were produced in 2022–2023 from a variety of power generation sources, and an additional 4,326.45 million units of electricity that were made available for sale brought in Rs 2,500 crore.
The Governor mentioned that Karnataka has received the highest score possible for "Ease of Doing Business." During the Global Investors' Meet in Bengaluru last year, the state attracted capital investments totaling Rs 9.82 lakh crore.
