Mangaluru (Karnataka): A man has been arrested for allegedly injuring Hindu religious sensibilities during a Muslim wedding ceremony by dressing up as a Hindu deity, according to Dakshina Kannada district police.

Umarullal Basith, the man, was apprehended at the Cochin International Airport in Kerala, where he was attempting to flee abroad, police said.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Sonawane Rishikesh Baghwan said, Basith dressed himself as Hindu god Koragajja at his wedding on January 6 this year.

In a video that went popular on social media, Bashith was seen donning an areca nut cap and dressed up as Koragajja, a demigod worshipped in Tulu Nadu. During the wedding procession, the accused and his buddies were seen on tape dancing. The incident was criticised by Muslim and Hindu groups.

Following this, a police report was filed against Basith and his friends on January 7. Later, in a video, Basith also apologised for his actions.
