Kuwait's Emir, Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, assed away at 86, as announced by the state media. The cause of his death has not been disclosed publicly. Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al Sabah, the minister of his emiri court, expressed deep sorrow for the loss in a statement aired on state television, mourning the Emir's passing.

Kuwaiti state television interrupted its usual programs with verses from the Quran before delivering the news of Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's demise.

The late Emir had been admitted to the hospital in late November due to a health emergency of unspecified nature. Since then, the nation, known for its oil wealth, had been eagerly awaiting updates on his condition. It was previously reported that he had traveled to the United States for medical checks in March 2021.

A brief overview of Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's life reveals that he was born in 1937 as the fifth son of Sheikh Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who served as Kuwait's ruler from 1921 to 1950. Beginning his political journey at 25 as the governor of Hawalli province, he continued in this role until 1978, after which he spent a decade as the interior minister.

Appointed as crown prince in 2006 by his half-brother Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah assumed the role of Kuwait's Emir upon Sheikh Sabah's passing in September 2020, who died at the age of 91. Additionally, Sheikh Nawaf had also held the position of Kuwait's defense minister.
