Will Ladakh get full statehood? Delegation demands from union minister of state for home

New Delhi: A Delegation from Ladakh met Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy in the national capital Delhi on Thursday. Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has demanded full statehood for Ladakh at the meeting. State that after the withdrawal of Section 370, Ladakh was separated from Jammu and Kashmir and declared a Union Territory.

A total of 11 leaders under the Kargil Democratic Alliance had arrived in the Home Ministry for the meeting on Thursday. Leaders of other local parties, organizations including the National Conference, Congress, BJP were present. The meeting discussed development works in the Ladakh region and demanded full statehood. Ladakh is a Union Territory right now, although like Jammu and Kashmir it does not have its own assembly.

The meeting comes at a time when PM Modi recently met more than a dozen leaders from Jammu and Kashmir. The central government is trying to conduct delimitation, assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. For the first time since the withdrawal of Section 370, the Central Government had taken a major initiative to hold talks with the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir leaders had also sought full statehood for themselves, though the government had said it would be given at the right time.
