Patna: Bihar Advocate General Lalit Kishore has resigned from his post. He has sent his resignation to the state government. For the last 17 years, Lalit Kishore had been representing the state government in various positions in the Patna High Court. However, the reasons behind the resignation are not known. He was appointed advocate general in July 2017.

Soon after Lalit Kishore's resignation, the state government appointed former Education Minister Prashant Kumar Shahi as the new Advocate General of Bihar. Prashant Kumar Shahi had earlier served as advocate general from 2005 to 2010, after which he became the Education Minister in the Nitish Kumar government. Prashant Kumar Shahi is a senior advocate of the Patna High Court.

Prashant Kumar Shahi started practicing in the Patna High Court soon after he stepped down as a minister in the state government. The Nitish Kumar government has once again appointed Prashant Kumar Shahi as the Advocate General of Bihar. A notification to this effect has been issued by the State Law Department. According to the report, Shahi will take over as advocate general on Monday. Impressed by Shahi's style of functioning, Nitish Kumar inducted him into the state cabinet when he returned to power in 2010. Shahi held key portfolios like education, environment, and planning. Not only this, in 2013, he also contested the by-election of the Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat on a JDU ticket but was defeated by a big margin from RJD. He quit politics a few years later so that he could focus on advocacy again.
