Today is the 104th birth anniversary of Lalita Pawar popularly known as Manthara of Ramayana in every household. Lalita, born on April 18, 1916 in Yeola, Nashik, Maharashtra, holds the record for playing the longest acting innings. She was just 9 years old when her acting career started. She was 62 years since she was working in 1987 in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana. Lalita, who had made her iron in acting for almost 7 decades, was born outside the temple and she was named Ambika. Her father Lakshmanrao Sagun was a wealthy businessman in Nashik.

It is said that when Lalita's mother was pregnant, she went to Amba Devi's temple, while she suffered childbirth and she was named Ambika after being born outside the temple. Once Ambika went to see the shooting of a film with her father and brother in Pune, where director Nana Saheb saw her and chose to do child roles. But Lalita's father was against it. However, after persuading many times, he agreed. Lalita started her acting career at the age of 9 from 'Raja Harishchandra', released in 1928. However, her first film was also considered to be 'Patidodhar' in 1927. Later she also played lead roles in several silent films in the 1940s.

Then in the first film 'Duniya Kya Hai' under famous banner, she kept her name Lalita, because she felt that the name Ambika would not be suitable for the film and it would not go on people's tongues. Thriller films were used as an experiment in the industry at that time. Heroines were done stunts and they were also a bit bold at that time. Lalita also worked in such films. She also performed action scenes in films like 'Mastikhor Mashook' and 'Bhawani Talwar' in 1932, 'Pyari Katar' and 'Jalata Jigar' in 1933, 'Katil Katar' in 1935. She started getting a lot of work in mythological films too. She also wore a swimsuit in the film 'Divine Treasure'. Lalita made a number of taboo breaks during that period.
