Patna: On Wednesday, Bihar’s deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi made stunning accusations against jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, accusing him of asking favour from Union Minister Arun Jaitley for seeking relief following his conviction in the fodder scam. Modi also claimed that Lalu had offered to help topple the Nitish Kumar government in exchange for Jaitley’s help. To be noted that addressing a press conference in Patna on Wednesday, the BJP leader alleged that after the Jharkhand High Court gave a verdict in favour of the RJD chief in November 2014, Lalu had sent his aide Prem Gupta to Jaitley, urging him to order the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) not to file an appeal in the matter. The CBI investigated the multi-million-rupee fodder scam in Bihar.

Modi said, “When Jharkhand High Court gave the verdict in favour of Lalu Yadav that there is no need for a trial in other cases related to the fodder scam, CBI went to SC challenging this decision. Lalu Yadav sent his messenger Prem Gupta to Arun Jaitley to seek his help. Lalu's aide attempted that CBI should either not file an appeal or if it does file it, the probe agency must not oppose Lalu's applications in the case.”  In a surprising revelation, Modi claimed that RJD chief had also offered to topple the Nitish Kumar government if Jaitley agreed to help him. However, Modi added, the Union Minister turned down his offer.

"Arun Jaitley, however, clearly told him that CBI is an autonomous body and he cannot do anything about it," Sushil Modi said. He added that Lalu’s aide Gupta had also held meetings with other senior BJP leaders seeking their help in securing bail for Lalu. Lashing out at the RJD leader, who is currently serving a prison term in connection with the fodder scam, Modi said, “Lalu Prasad is a person with no do's and don'ts and can go to any limit to get his work done. He criticises BJP and RSS all the time but doesn't have a problem in taking their help.”

The BJP leader also accused Lalu of handling the ticket distribution in his despite being incarcerated. He said, “RJD supremo who is in jail is still trying to affect the politics of Bihar. In the distribution of ticket, he handled everything from the hospital.
