In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a touching example of communal harmony was witnessed. The passing of a 92-year-old Hindu man was marked by a unique blend of Hindu and Muslim rituals. The elderly man, Ram Avtar, also known as Baijnath, was from Tarwan village.

When Ram Avtar passed away, his body was first washed and laid out on a platform. Subsequently, Muslim clerics performed a Fatiha (a prayer) and then he was buried. Upon learning of the situation, the local police, led by Inspector Nitendra Shukla, arrived to verify the details.

Ram Avtar's family explained that the funeral was conducted according to his wishes. His sons, Shiv Prasad and Mohanlal, revealed that years ago, he had converted to Islam and prayed five times a day. Therefore, his final rites were performed in accordance with Muslim customs.

The family shared that Ram Avtar, known affectionately as Jethu, had been closely associated with Muslims since childhood and often spoke about Allah. His final wish was to be buried on his own land in front of his house rather than being cremated. Accordingly, his burial was carried out as per his desire, and a grave was prepared in front of his home.

In addition to the Muslim rites, the family, being Hindu, also observed Hindu rituals. Mohanlal, one of Ram Avtar’s sons, used a traditional Hindu method involving a lota (a ceremonial vessel). He explained that, while his father wanted to be buried, other Hindu funeral rites would also be observed as part of the process.
