New Delhi: On 15 August 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the post of Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) from the ramparts of the Red Fort. After this General Bipin Rawat became the first CDS of the country. His dream project was to build a theater command. So that all three forces can be brought under one roof. A lot of work had been done on this, but the CDS had died in a helicopter crash. Present CDS Anil Chauhan is now working on it. Two top officials aware of this matter have told that now the final work is going on on this. That means the preparation has been completed. It may be announced on August 15 this year as well.
Let us tell you that the borders of India are with Pakistan and China. All the time both countries keep doing provocative acts on the border. There are also separate theater commands in the Chinese Army. At present, America has 11 and China has 5 theater commands. Top government officials have told the media that one of the top proposals being considered is to create a joint theater command. He told that the plans to connect the Army, Navy, and Air Force in the Special Theater Command are being implemented.
Whereas the earlier plan was to create 4 theater commands. One Air Defense Command, one Navy Theater Command, and two Army Theater Commands (one each for the Western and Eastern Sectors). Firstly, for the security of the northern and eastern borders with China, the formation of the Integrated Theater Command is included. Second for the western frontiers with Pakistan and the third maritime command which will be formed to deal with the threats in the maritime region. Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, and Lucknow are among the possible places that are being brainstormed for their headquarters.
