New Delhi: Three-time Olympic Gold medal winner and legendary hockey player Balbir Singh Sr. has died on Monday, suffering from various ailments for the past two weeks. Many senior leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Punjab CM have expressed deep grief over the death of the veteran player.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted from his official Twitter handle saying, 'It is very sad to hear the news of Padmashree Balbir Singh's death, he was a famous hockey player who made an indelible mark on world hockey with his stick. I am fortunate that I met Jindadil Balbir Ji who has been a 3-time Olympic gold medalist My deepest condolences to his family in this hour of grief.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh expressed deep sorrow over the death of Balbir Singh Sr. that the tenacity, dedication and spirit of this hockey veteran will always serve to inspire many generations to come. Amarinder wrote in a tweet that, 'I was deeply saddened by the news of the death of veteran hockey player Balbir Singh, three-time gold medalists at the Olympics.'
