Mathurapur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Trinamool Congress workers of vandalising the statue of 19th-century reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in Kolkata, Now, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday attacked on PM and asked “Can he (PM) give back the 200 years old heritage?”
A bust of Vidyasagar had been vandalised during the violence that occurred during BJP president Amit Shah's roadshow in Kolkata on Tuesday evening. The BJP and TMC have been blaming each other for the incident.
The West Bengal CM further added, “We have proof (of BJP vandalising the statue) and you say that TMC has done. Aren't you ashamed? He should do sit-ups for lying so much. Liar. Prove allegations otherwise we'll drag you to jail.”
While addressing the poll campaign rally in Mathurapur Lok Sabha constituency in South 24 Parganas, Banerjee said she is ready to go to jail for saying this. “I am not scared to speak the truth.”
She further said, last night, they got to know that BJP had filed a complaint with the Election Commission “so that we cannot hold any meeting after Narendra Modi's meeting. The EC is the brother of BJP. Earlier, it was an impartial body, now everyone in the country says EC is sold out to BJP”.
