Kolkata: Employees of Life Insurance Corporation of India have announced a one-hour nationwide strike on February 4 against the budgetary proposal of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in which she has said to sell a government stake in LIC. Pradip Mukherjee, vice-president of the Kolkata Division of the Life Insurance Corporation Employees Association, said, "We will go on a one-hour strike on Tuesday from 12 am to 1.15 pm."
He said that we will also organize demonstrations in all our offices after that. He said that after that, we will get down on the road and protest against the government's move. We will also go to all MPs. Describing the proposal of partial disinvestment of LIC as against the national interest, Mukherjee said that this company is currently India's largest financial company in terms of capital, which has also overtaken the State Bank of India (SBI).

The All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA) has also opposed the government's move, saying that an hour-long strike will be held on February 3 or 4. AIIEA general secretary Srikanth Mishra said in Chennai that, "We are against this move. First, we will go for an hour-long strike on February 3 or 4, and then take a decision regarding our further steps."
