International Punjabi Organisation urges Home Minister to evacuate Hindu, Sikh families from Kabul

New Delhi: The World Punjabi Organisation has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to evacuate 257 Afghan Sikh and Hindu families from Kabul at the earliest in view of the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. In a statement, the international president of the organization Vikramjit Singh Sahni said that it is very important to bring back Sikhs and Hindus of Afghan origin safely as their lives are in danger.

According to the statement, the organization is ready to cooperate necessarily for the rehabilitation of visitors from Afghanistan and will be provided free employment-oriented training. Sahni had sent three chartered aircraft last year to evacuate 500 Hindu and Sikh families from Kabul, Ghazni, Jalalabad, and other parts of Afghanistan. According to the statement, he thanked the Home Minister for granting long-term visas to those who have come to India and urged them to grant citizenship to such people under the Citizenship Amendment Act, which came into force last year.

Just a few weeks before the formal withdrawal of US and NATO forces from the two-decade-long war in Afghanistan, the Taliban on Friday seized capitals of four more provinces and established control over the entire southern part of the country and is slowly moving towards Kabul.
