Technology has redefined the way we live through a plethora of apps and social media platforms around us. Usage of these platforms for reaching out to old schoolmates and acquaintances is passé. As a matter of fact, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to state that these social media apps and platforms are now shaping our lives. At first, these apps were credited for bringing instant fame to common people, but later it was realised that gaining instant stardom just could be the starting of longer illustrious journey.

For instance, Likee, the pioneering short video sharing app from Singapore-based Bigo Technology PTE Ltd, has touched several in more ways than one. If we talk about instant fame, it would just be a granule of a much larger unit. To have a better understanding about the impact of these platforms on our lives, we need to go through the journey of some of the Likee influencers, who went through a complete transformation in their lives when they ventured into the short video sharing app.

When Megha Prasad, a content creator on Likee, decided to pursue a modelling career, all she had thought about was participating in some beauty pageants.  She was even crowned as Miss West Bengal, but despite acquiring the title, she stared at a bleak future. An avid user of Facebook, Megha once came across the Likee app on the social media platform. What grabbed her attention was a video featuring Bollywood sensation Disha Patani. “I saw Disha doing some random stuff with several cool effects on the app. Then I downloaded the app and discovered that it was quite unique and had features that other apps do not posses.” Her shot to fame on Likee came when she participated and won the #DishaPataniChallenge, following which she travelled to Mumbai to meet the diva. Encouraged by the achievement, Megha started using the app more frequently, creating content extensively, and later went on to be crowned Miss Likee 2018. She is now a resident of Mumbai and credits Likee for whatever she has achieved. “Before using Likee, I was just a normal girl, who had so many dreams…Likee is a platform where you can actually achieve your dreams,” says Megha.

Another Likee influencer Tanvi, who is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, has had a similar journey on the platform.  She had been using other apps to promote her skills, but once she used Likee, its inbuilt music feature gave her a platform that she had always been striving for. According to Tanvi, “Normally dancers have to separately edit the music and then match it. On Likee, I just had to search for a song and dance on it. I could create more content on this platform.” She further hailed Likee for “supporting artists and content creators financially and helping them in collaborations with celebrities”.

Vicky Dadhich and Aakanksha T, professional dancers who create content on Likee, have been on the platform since its launch in 2017. Speaking about his journey on the app, Vicky feels that the app has helped in creating a “triangle comprising content creators, Likee and audience, which is a win-win situation for all”. According to the duo, there are lesser options on other apps and features like festivals stickers have made video creation easier. “It offers good money and recognition - we would recommend our friends to join Likee,” says Vicky.

The success of a platform like Likee largely depends on content creators, who make optimum utilisation of the various features and extensive reach of an app. Likee has had a successful journey till now and it makes sure that its creators get rewarded for their efforts and achievements. This mutual bonhomie keeps the creators intact, thereby helping them become influencers and achieve their dreams.
