New Delhi: Legendary and famous footballer Lionel Messi of Argentina has won the record FIFA Player of the Year for the sixth time. He won the title, beating another legendary football player, Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal and Virgil Van Dyk of Liverpool. Ronaldo has won this title five times. Messi won the Spanish La Liga title with Barcelona last season. He scored a total of 54 goals in 58 matches in all competitions.

Messi last won the FIFA Player of the Year title in 2015. Messi had previously won the title in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015. For the past decade, only Messi and Ronaldo have occupied this title. In 2007, Kaka of Brazil won the title and after that only Messi and Ronaldo held the title until 2017, but last year, Croatia midfielder Luka Modric took the title after ending the dominance of these two giants.
