On Tuesday, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari called on all states and union territories to allow trucks and lorries stuck in the blockade along the interstate borders as soon as possible as the essential goods in various parts of the country go smoothly. While addressing the meeting with the road transport ministers of the states and union territories through video conferencing, Union Minister Gadkari requested to intervene in this matter immediately and resolve the issue through local and district administration. He also emphasized the need for drivers and their assistants to follow guidelines such as physical distance, wearing masks, using sanitizers. Gadkari said that by following these health protocols, workers can also be taken to factories. Food and shelter can be provided to workers by following physical distance and hygiene standards.

On this matter, the Union Minister informed that he was giving top priority to the development of road and highway infrastructure and now he plans to increase the pace of construction of national highways by two-three times in the next two years. He requested the states and union territories to expedite land acquisition as the delay would affect the pace of development. For this, he also asked to use the remaining amount lying unused.
