Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 6: Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir vote today

NEW DELHI:  Bhartiya Janta Party’s Bhopal candidate Pragya Thakur, and cricketer Virat Kohli were among the early voters as Lok Sabha polls began in 59 seats spread across seven states in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

On the early morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted asking people to come out in large number and vote in the sixth round of the national polls. "Yet another phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is here! Urging all those whose constituencies are polling in today's sixth phase to go out and vote. I hope youngsters are voting in record numbers. After all, their participation makes the polls even more special," PM Modi tweeted this morning.

In Uttar Pradesh, polling will be held in 14 seats, while 10 in Haryana, eight seats each in West Bengal, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, seven in Delhi and four in Jharkhand will vote today.

Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Congress’s Bhopal candidate Digvijaya Singh, and Jyotiraditya Scindia are among the 979 candidates contesting in this phase. In Delhi, where all the seven seats are voting today, the heads of the state unit of the BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are contesting each other in the same seat. In the meantime, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia is contesting from Guna seat, a seat he has held comfortably since 2002.

In Madhya Pradesh’s 8 seats, the battle of Bhopal will be a key contest to look out for today. BJP has fielded Pragya Singh Thakur, Malegaon bomb blast accused, against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in the seat.
