London picnics for Palestine help activists spread the word

London: The second Picnic for Palestine was held in London and was organised by Friends of Al-Aqsa, a group based in the UK.

The initiative was started to promote more pro-Palestinian activity in the UK and increase awareness of "The Nakba," also known as the Palestinian catastrophe.

Picnics with friends and family are a pleasure we unquestionably take for granted, according to FOA's head of public affairs, Shamiul Joarder.

Due to Israel's strict restrictions on Palestinian freedom of movement, Palestinians cannot take advantage of this. Let's make the most of our privilege this summer by hosting a picnic in support of Palestine to kick off a season of boycott, divestment, and sanction (BDS) campaigns to hold Israel accountable.

This summer, participants reaffirmed their dedication to BDS, including their plans to target Puma, a major supporter of the Israeli Football Association. Human Rights Watch claims that the IFA has teams operating in Israel's illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian territory.

Aside from discussing ways to protest the UK government's new bill that forbids local councils from starting boycotts of Israeli goods, those in attendance at the event also discussed ways to fight it.
