One of the well known Police Commissioner Cressida Dick, the leader of London's Metropolitan Police (Met), announced her resignation as Britain's top officer on Thursday night. Dick, the country's largest police force's first female commander, has been under fire for a series of incidents that had recently brought the Met into disgrace.

The police chief stated that her decision was based on a conversation she had with London Mayor Sadiq Khan earlier in the day on Thursday. "It is apparent that the Mayor no longer has enough faith in my leadership to allow me to remain. He has forced me to resign as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, and I have no option but to do so "In a statement, she added.

Dick said she agreed to remain on for a short time at the mayor's request to assure the Met's stability and leadership while plans are made for a new commissioner's nomination. She has led the Metropolitan Police Service through terrorist attacks, the Grenfell fire, protests, and the pandemic. Dick also acknowledged the negative impact of a number of incidents that have tarnished the force's reputation.

She said that the recent murder of female citizen Sarah Everard by a serving Met police officer, as well as a slew of other heinous crimes, had damaged the trust of the public in the police force.
