The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said lower-level easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal have extended northwestwards, reaching up to Delhi, Haryana and east Rajasthan as on Saturday. Low-level relative humidity has also increased over the region.
The weather department said,'' The conditions continue to remain favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon over Delhi, remaining parts of west Uttar Pradesh and some more parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan during the next 24 hours'' adding that the Conditions are also becoming favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of the country during the subsequent 48 hours.
This is already the most belated monsoon in the Capital for at least 17 years, for which the IMD has records, going back to the 2006, when the seasonal showers hit the city on July 9. The monsoon usually arrives in the city by June 27-28.
A low-pressure area is likely to form over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around July 11, and will further intensify rains over west and central India. “When the low-pressure area develops over Bay of Bengal, good rainfall is expected in its path, It added.
