Forty-seven students from Bangalore Medical College have been rushed to the hospital due to complaints of stomach problems and dehydration, officials revealed on Saturday.

Ramesh Krishna, the Dean and Director of the college, informed that 47 students from the girls' hostel were admitted to Victoria Hospital on Friday. Among them, 28 are being treated in the Trauma Care Centre, 13 in H Block, and three are under observation in the ICU. Their symptoms included stomach upset and dehydration, and they've been diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis.

"We've sent samples for investigation, and the students are receiving antibiotics and IV fluids," Krishna stated. He added that they're awaiting the test results.

A doctor from Victoria Hospital confirmed, "All students are now stable and have been diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. While there's a concern about cholera, we're waiting for confirmation from the test results, which should be available soon."

The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department had earlier reported six cases of cholera in the state this year, with five of them in March. Despite concerns about a cholera outbreak due to the intense heat and water scarcity, the department clarified that these cases are isolated incidents and not indicative of an outbreak.
