Born on 30 April 1870, Dhundiraj Phalke entered the world of cinema at a time when cinema did not exist in India. Yes and he is called Dadasaheb who gave life to films and also a new identity. Let us tell you that let us tell you that Dadasaheb died on 16 February 1944. The Indian cinema industry is known for producing the largest number of films in the world every year. It is said that almost every second youth of India thinks of working in films, but there were many difficulties in starting it. In fact, in the year 1910, 'The Life of Christ' was shown at the then America-India Picture Palace in Bombay.
At the same time, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, watching the film while sitting in the theater, decided to applaud that he would also bring Indian religious and mythological characters to life on the silver screen. After that Dadasaheb went to England to make his film and thought of bringing some equipments used in the film and in this journey he also put his entire life insurance capital at stake. On reaching England, Dadasaheb Phalke first subscribed to the Biscope film magazine and Dadasaheb returned to India after a three-month trip to England. At the same time, after that he watched all the movies in the theaters present in Bombay and for about two months he used to watch cinema every day for four to five hours in the evening and the rest of the time he used to make films. Due to this, his health was affected and he almost lost his eyesight. Although still he did not give up, he started the film which we know today as 'Raja Harishchandra', the first feature film of India.
Yes, Dadasaheb was everything in his film. Yes, he produced it, the director was also the same, he also handled the costume design, lightsman and camera department. Apart from this, he was also the writer of the script of the film. It was released on 3 May 1913 at Coronation Cinema Bombay. This was the first film in India. At the same time, after the success of Raja Harishchandra, Dadasaheb Phalke did not look back. Starting with Raja Harishchandra, his career lasted for 19 years. In his film career, he made 95 films and 26 short films. Yes and his best films include Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918) and Kaliya Mardan (1919).
Apart from this, his last silent movie was Setubandhan and last movie was Gangavataran. Let us tell you that in his honor, the Government of India started giving 'Dada Saheb Phalke Award' in 1969. Actually this is the most prestigious award of Indian cinema and the first to receive this award was Devika Rani Choudhary. In the year 1971, India Post issued a postage stamp in honor of Dadasaheb Phalke and had his portrait on it.
