Shivpuri: About 2,000 pigs have died due to African swine fever in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh so far. Taking action on this, preparations are now being made to kill pigs in the affected area. The municipality has given this information. In fact, after the continuous deaths of pigs in Shivpuri city for the last few days, the Animal Husbandry Department sent samples of dead pigs to the State Animal Disease Investigation Laboratory in Bhopal. African swine fever ASF virus has been found in dead pigs.

Dr. Tamori, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, has informed that humans need not panic about this disease, because African swine fever disease is found only in pigs. The general public has been appealed to immediately inform the district control room if there is an unnatural death of pigs around them. African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious virus disease of domesticated and wild pigs, responsible for severe economic and production losses. At the moment, there is no treatment or vaccine for ASF.

According to the National Action Plan of the Government of India for the prevention of this disease, a radius of one kilometer of the affected area is declared an infected zone and a nine-km radius around it is declared a surveillance zone. At the same time, in the infected zone, pigs are killed in a humane manner and their compensation is distributed. Along with this, the sale and transportation of pork for disease control are banned till further orders.
