The Madhya Pradesh High Court has instructed doctors in the state to end their strike and return to their duties. This decision came on Saturday from a division bench led by Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Raj Mohan Singh. The court's order followed a petition filed by Anshul Tiwari, a resident from Narsinghpur district, who challenged the ongoing strike.
According to the petitioner's legal team, including senior advocate Sanjay Agrawal and advocate Anju Agrawal, the court has directed the doctors to cease their strike and resume work immediately. Additionally, the doctors have been instructed to present their grievances to the court.
The detailed order from the court is still pending. On Friday, the High Court had issued notices to the state government and other relevant parties, requesting their responses within 24 hours regarding the doctors' strike. This strike began on August 17, organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in response to the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, as well as damage to the hospital's facilities.
The IMA has announced a nationwide withdrawal of non-emergency health services for 24 hours starting at 6 am on August 17 to protest these incidents. Since then, numerous resident doctors in Madhya Pradesh have halted their work in government hospitals, except for emergency services.
It is significant that the Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered doctors to end their strike and return to work following protests related to the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata. The court has also requested that doctors formally present their grievances. The strike, which impacted non-emergency health services across the state, was organized in response to the tragic incident and subsequent vandalism at the Kolkata hospital.
