New Delhi: Patanjali, a company related to yoga guru Swami Ramdev, has received a major setback from the Madras High Court. The court has banned the trademark of Patanjali's drug Coronil. Patanjali claims that coronil is a drug of coronavirus. This drug was launched a few days ago.

The interim order was issued by Madras High Court Judge CV Karthikeyan till July 30 on a petition by Chennai-based company Arudra Engineering Limited. Arudra Engineering Limited argues that 'coronil' is its trademark since 1993. Therefore, no other company can manufacture products under this name. Arudra Engineering Limited manufactures chemicals and sanitizers, which are used in heavy machinery and containment units. According to the company, it had registered coronil-212 SPL and coronil-92B in 1993. The company claims that it has been continuously renewing this trademark in regular intervals.

The company said in a statement that many, "Our rights on this trademark are still valid till 2027". The company has described this trademark as international. This company has also said that big companies like BHEL and Indian Oil are among its clients. To prove its claim true, the petitioner has also presented a five-year bill in the court. According to the PTI report, the company said in court that the mark of medicine sold by Patanjali is exactly like its company. Products sold may be different, but the trademark is the same.
