Depending on the intelligence information, the CGST team arrested one Madurai based businessman who evaded about Rs 21 crores of GST. A Madurai based businessman named Kanagarathinam from Alagappa Nagar had submitted fake bills to evade GST. Based on the initial reports, the CGST officials had conducted a raid.
Kanagarathinam was found to have evaded nearly 21 crores of GST amount. He was later arrested and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Madurai, who eventually directed the police to take Kanagarathinam under custody. The accused has already paid Rupees one crore and seventy seven lakh to the GST council. He will be granted bail if he pay the remaining dues, says the GST officials.
Few days back, a businessman from Tamil Nadu involved in Cardamom business was arrested by the GST officials due to fraudulent receipts. This was the same thing happening across India by number of businessman to evade GST.
