Mumbai: The news related to the recommendation of the Maharashtra government to nominate actress Urmila Matondkar to the Legislative Council has been going viral. All those reports have been stopped by Shiv Sena. Speaking on this, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said on Friday that "Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will decide in this regard". 12 candidates are to be nominated in the state legislative council from the Governor's quota. On this, the Maharashtra cabinet has discussed sending the names of candidates to the governor, a day after which Sanjay Raut has given a statement.

In response to a question related to the discussion on Urmila Matondkar's name last Friday, Sanjay Raut told reporters, 'I too have heard about the speculation that the government will nominate Matondkar for the Legislative Council. This is the prerogative of the state cabinet. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is authorized to take a decision on this. 12 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council have become vacant in June this year. Under Article 171 of the Constitution, the Governor can nominate 12 personalities associated with literature, art, science, cooperative movement, and social service for the Legislative Council of the state.

According to reports, Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress are going to recommend four names to the Governor. In this way, apart from Urmila Matondkar, the names of Marathi actor Adesh Bandekar, singer Anand Shinde, BJP left NCP, Eknath Khadse, and farmer leader Raju Shetty are also mentioned.
