New Delhi, March 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and several other leaders including Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani extended their heartfelt greetings and best wishes to people of the nation on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri 2019. Counted among major Hindu festivals in India, MahaShivratri sees celebrations across the country with a great fanfare. Prominent political personalities have extended Mahashivratri greetings. The festival, also known as 'the great night of Shiva', celebrates the overcoming of darkness and ignorance. It also marks the beginning of spring.

The Prime Minister took to Twitter and extended his greetings on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri 2019.

 

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley extended his best wishes on the holy occasion of Mahashivratri.

 

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala took to Twitter and extended his best wishes to countrymen on Mahashivratri.

 

Maha Shivratri is considered auspicious for spiritual growth and is celebrated with immense fervour and a pious spirit by devotees of Lord Shiva. As per Hindu mythology, Maha Shivratri is celebrated on the 13th night and the 14th day of the Phalguna month (which falls in February and March).

People across the nation are celebrating Maha Shivratri today. On the auspicious occasion, devotees thronged at various temples of Lord Shiva since the break of the dawn. They were seen offering bael leaves, milk and honey to 'Shivling' and chant the name of Lord Shiva, who is also known as the 'destroyer of evil'.
