Mumbai: A 23-year-old man stabbed his 23-year-old wife to death in broad daylight in Mumbai, police said on Sunday. The incident took place in the Tilak Nagar area. According to the report, the deceased Rupali was a Hindu. Whereas, her husband Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh was from the Muslim community. The two had a love marriage three years ago. They both have a son. Iqbal and his family used to ask Rupali to follow Muslim rituals and wear a burqa from the day of marriage. However, Rupali did not agree to it.
There was often a dispute between the two on this matter, due to which Rupali started living separately from Iqbal. However, the two often spoke on the phone. On Monday, Iqbal called Rupali to meet him. There was a dispute between the two again about this matter. In anger, Rupali said to get divorced. At first, Iqbal started convincing her by citing their son. However, when Rupali stuck to the divorce, Iqbal dragged her to a lane and then slit her throat with a knife, killing her on the spot.
Hearing Rupali's screams, people started gathering there. On seeing the people, Iqbal fled from the spot. People immediately informed the police. The police reached the spot as soon as the information was received. Rupali's body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem. The police immediately started searching for the accused and arrested him shortly after.
