According to media reports, Ahire lives with the family in a slum in Kalyan. The notice has been sent by the department on the basis of the amount deposited in their bank account. Ahire has registered a case in this regard with the police station. According to the Income Tax Department, in November 2016, Rs 58 lakh was deposited in Ahire's account during the demonetization. Ahire originally hails from Osmanabad district. Ahire said that on September 5 last year, he received a notice from the department seeking clarification on depositing Rs 58 lakh in a private bank account.

In his statement, Ahire told that he is not educated and hence he told the neighbors about this and on his understanding he contacted the officials of the Income Tax Department. From where he was advised to contact the bank. Ahire said that the bank informed him that a fake account was opened with his PAN card and voter ID card and money was deposited in it. Ahire claimed that the fraudsters opened the account using his fake signature and got a copy of the PAN card. Also, the photo is different in it. After this, a notice was sent by the Income Tax Department on December 7, in which it was asked to pay a tax of one crore five thousand rupees for the income earned in 2017-18.
