Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress legislators bicycle to Vidhan Sabha today, March 1, the first day of the Budget session, to protest against rising prices of petroleum products, as per an official release.

Maharashtra Congress leaders led by state party chief Nana Patole took out a bicycle rally to the Vidhan Bhavan to protest against the rise in fuel prices.

Congress state president Nana Patole has said international crude oil prices are at a record low while fuel prices are at an all-time high in the country. "Unjust taxes imposed by the central government have pushed up fuel prices and inflation," he stated.  The significant spike in cooking gas prices has broken the backbone of the common man, he added.

Maharashtra ministers Balasaheb Thorat, Aslam Shaikh and Yashomati Thakur and Mumbai Congress chief Ashok alias Bhai Jagtap were among the leaders who took part in the rally ahead of the commencement of the state Legislature's budget session on Monday.

''The state government has made the life of the common man difficult due to the rise in petrol price...the Centre is mocking the people. Hence, as a mark of protest against the fuel price hike, the Congress leaders reached the Vidhan Bhavan on bicycles, Nana  Patole alleged.

The prices of petroleum products have been rising continuously and reached nearly Rs 100 per litre for petrol in several parts of the country.
