Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M K Stalin turned 67 on Sunday with several leaders, including Rahul Gandhi of the Congress, wishing him.

In his greetings on Monday, Rahul Gandhi tweeted "A very happy birthday to DMK President Shri MK Stalin. Wishing you good health and much happiness,"  Besides the former Congress President, among those who greeted the DMK chief were Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy and VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan.

Pro-poor welfare activities and camps for aspiring job-seekers by the party marked the day following Stalin's request not to celebrate the occasion as veteran DMK leader K Anbazhagan was not keeping good health.

Stalin, also Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, had requested cadres not to celebrate his birthday in view of the hospitalization of 97-year old Anbazhagan. He had also asked party men not to call on him on Sunday.

The 234-members Tamil Nadu assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 6 and the counting of votes will be done on May 2. Ruling AIADMK is contesting the polls in a pre-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Stalin has joined hands with the Congress, Left parties, Vaiko's MDMK. This time actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan's party Makkal Neethi Maiam (MNM) is also in the fray.
