Maharashtra Day celebrated in normal way amid corona crisis, 828 deaths occurred yesterday

Mumbai: The 61st Foundation Day of Maharashtra on May 1 is being celebrated in a very simple manner in the state today in view of the status of corona virus infection on Saturday. This is the second year in a row, when large events are not being organized on State Hoodday because of the global epidemic. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has hoisted the flag at a function organized by the ministry on the occasion of Maharashtra Day.

On Friday, Maharashtra reported 62,919 cases of corona virus and 828 people died of infection. New cases of infection remained lower than Thursday, but the death toll rose. On the occasion of Maharashtra Day today, CM Uddhav Thackeray hoisted the national flag at the state's administrative headquarters, ministry in south Mumbai. CM Uddhav paid floral tributes at photographs of Maratha Emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, his mother Jizamata and Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. State Home Minister Dilip Valse Patil and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat were also present.

CM Uddhav Thackeray first visited Hutma Chowk in south Mumbai and offered floral tributes to 105 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for a unified Maharashtra.
